Ecume is a selection of musical pieces written by Thomas Vaquié for the AntiVJ visual label. Each one of these pieces has originally been composed for site specific and installation work, always in close relationship with the images and the setting where the projects were taking place. They have then been adapted and compiled to offer an insight of each one of these worlds outside the context of the installation.

Yannick Jacquet turned the album's tracks into physical waveforms.

A visualisation tool, developed by coder/artist Simon Geilfus, allowed to analyze the album’s waveforms and create a topographical imagery of Thomas’ compositions.  Yannick Jacquet explored two types of visualizations: a circular one, and a linear one. These sonic landscapes became 3D models that could be physically 3D printed. A silicone mould was then made from that print, which itself was used to create a concrete cast. Finally, under the right lighting, arose what we were aiming for: a photography of Ecume.

Nico Neefs directed the music video of Ether, a track taken from Ecume album.
He filmed this fantastic images based on the artwork designed by
Yannick Jacquet and on the sound waves of Ether track.

Music by Thomas Vaquié

Edit & Post-production by Nico Neefs
Video produced by Thomas Vaquié  & Charles Kinoo for Less Is More Studio

ETHER MUSIC VIDEO :

Ether embodies the world that exists above the skies.
It is the air that the gods breathe.
It is that feeling of dizziness,
the asphyxiation that we feel when faced with immensity.

The images on the video were made entirely using the sound waves of the track Ether taken from the album Ecume by Thomas Vaquié. Equipped with a home-made micro lens, a camera travels inside physical representations of the composition, from a concrete mountain built from the spectrogram of the music, to eruptions of metal powder caused by rhythmic impulsions
