Commissioner: MUSIQ3 Festival
Musicians / Composers : Vassilena Serafimova, Before Tigers
Visual Scenography and Artwork : Romain Tardy
To mark the centenary of Iannis Xenakis, the Musiq3 Festival presents a bold reimagining of his sonic legacy.
At the heart of the project is a collaborative re-composition between Before Tigers (Laurent Delforge), electroacoustic composer and sound architect, and the phenomenal percussionist Vassilena Serafimova. Together, they delve into Xenakis’s raw, rhythmic material — not to recreate it, but to rework and reframe it through a new, contemporary lens. The result is an intense sonic sculpture, merging live percussion with powerful electronic textures, frequencies, and spatial motion.
Xenakis’s work has always been about space, energy, and transformation. This creation follows that spirit — not as a tribute frozen in time, but as an evolving performance that explores what his music can become today.
To expand this dialogue between sound and structure, visual artist Romain Tardy joins the project with his signature light-driven language. His generative visuals, tightly synchronized with the audio engine, turn the stage into a shifting, architectural environment.
Together, these three artists craft a multisensory experience — a living homage where Xenakis’s radical energy is not just honored, but reignited.
